“I don't sign into any service that doesn't allow me to use either Google or facebook [sic],” someone recently commented on a recent PCMagazine story.

As that PC Magazine commenter alludes, the ability to log in to web sites and services with your social profile can lead to an easier and more personalized experience.

That’s why today we’re extending the social sign-in capabilities you see here on Dell’s community sites to our commerce site in the U.S. to make shopping on Dell.com even easier. Following on the heels of our adding bitcoin as a purchase option, this is yet another example of how our Dell Commerce Services team is constantly innovating to provide a more intuitive experience on Dell.com.

Studies have shown that about 25 percent of online consumers would abandon a purchase if they were forced to register first. Now when you use your social login on Dell.com, you can link your social account to your Dell My Account, giving you a seamless access to your saved profile information and order history. No more having to remember multiple logins or passwords.

You can rest assured the login process will be easier without compromising your security – guarding your personal information is our top priority. We have built-in data protection, by limiting the user profile data that is retrieved from social media sites to the barest minimum and making sure your personal data is not shared with third parties.

For our business customers, while your employees can shop for themselves on Dell.com with their social profile, they will still have to log in separately via an established Dell Account to access your company’s Premier site. Therefore, you can rest easy that your employees are not making personal purchases through company stores.

As Business 2 Community points out, “the Internet has never been more accessible to the modern consumer; smartphones, TV sets, and even cars are creating new touch points to the web. As the number of new mediums increase, social login enables users to bypass form fields and authenticate effortlessly across devices.”
