How to change the Dell Encryption External Media device password

Affected Products:

• Dell Encryption External Media
• Dell Data Protection | External Media Edition

It may be necessary to change the password on a USB storage device encrypted by Dell Encryption External Media software. Sometimes, a user may reset the Dell Encryption External Media device's password in order to share data with a colleague. The following process can be used to reset the password for a Dell Encryption External Media-encrypted removable media storage device.

Not Applicable

1. Log in to a Dell Encryption Enterprise Shield workstation and insert the encrypted removable storage device.
2. Open My Computer and find the mounted removable storage device.

3. Right-click the mounted removable storage device and select External Media Shield > Change Password from the context menu.

Alternatively, the password can also be changed in the Dell Encryption Local Management Console. Right-click the Dell Encryption Enterprise icon that is found on the system tray, click Open Dell Encryption Enterprise.

1. Click Removable Storage
2. Select the removable device from the list.
3. Click Change Password

4. Enter the current password, the new password, and again confirm the new password.

The password for this media has now been reset successfully.
