Cause
If using the Root User to install an AppSync Linux Oracle client.
AppSync will inherit some of the root user s profile settings.
The oracle user which AppSync uses, will inherit the root user s ULIMIT settings when AppSync emulates the Oracle user.
AppSync requires that the ulimit settings for the Root User be equal to or higher than the ulimit settings for the Oracle User.
We recommend using a SUDO user, to install an AppSync Linux Oracle client .
This will allow the customer to set the ulimits of the SUDO user to be higher or match those of Oracle.

Resolution
ulimit settings for Oracle vs. ulimit settings for root.
This install had an unusual setting where the Oracle user has larger ulimit settings than the root user ulimit settings.
Work Around: The issue was worked around by manually altering the system to match ulimits between root and oracle. Adding the root ulimits to /etc/security/limits.conf
Fix: We recommend using a SUDO user. This will allow the customer to set the ulimits to the SUDO user to match those of Oracle.
Please see knowledge base article (https://support.emc.com/kb/485322) to help configure a SUDO user.
