Symptoms

After an installation and or upgrade, the ESXi DCUI IP address 0.0.0.0.

Cause

By default the ESXi operating system picks the static IP address from vmk0.

Resolution

To resolve this issue: 
  1. Put the affected nodes into maintenance mode
  2. Set the correct VMkernel interface and management IP address, run:  
    # esxcfg-advcfg --set vmk2 /Net/ManagementIface
# esxcfg-advcfg --set <IP address> /Net/ManagementAddr
  3. Check and confirm if the correct settings are present in the below files:  
    /etc/vmware/esx.conf > look for line: /adv/Net/ManagementAddr
/bootbank/etc/vmware/esx.conf > look for line: /adv/Net/ManagementAddr
/altbootbank/etc/vmware/esx.conf > look for line: /adv/Net/ManagementAddr
  4. Run auto-backup.sh and confirm the same settings from the above files
  5. Reboot the host
  6. Double-check the issue
