Symptoms

The camera shutter cannot be opened for facial recognition to log in to Windows. This happens on some Latitude 9330 or Dell Pro 13 Premium computers with an older BIOS. This can also happen on a Latitude 9430 with BIOS 1.14.3 after rebooting or resuming from sleep mode.

Cause

The general-purpose input/output port (GPIO) is disabled in the BIOS.

Resolution

Long-term Solution:

  • If using a Latitude 9330 or Dell Pro 13 Premium, updating to the latest version of the BIOS on the computer resolves the issue.
  • If using a Latitude 9430, updating to Latitude 9430 BIOS version 1.14.3 or later on the computer resolves the issue.

Workaround:

Use a Windows password, Windows PIN, or fingerprint to log in to Windows.
