Symptoms
Hyper-V backups fail with the following messages:
2024-11-01 15:09:10 avhypervvss Error <43422>: Failed to create checkpoint for server: 'Hv2019-cl1'
2024-11-01 15:10:48 avhypervvss Error <43408>: Failed to create RCT checkpoint for the targets.
2024-11-01 15:10:48 avhypervvss Error <41674>: Failed to backup targets. Unable to snapshot targets.
2024-11-01 15:12:18 avhypervvss Error <41659>: Backup did not complete successfully
Cause
Root cause is unknown.
Hyper-V plugin attempting to create a checkpoint for the name of the Hyper-V cluster service name itself rather than the clustered VMs.
A configuration error using the Avamar cluster configuration might be a possible culprit.
Resolution
Unregister and re-register the Hyper-V cluster client using the Avamar Cluster Configuration Wizard.
Clear the "Activated" option for the Hyper-V cluster client in the Avamar User Interface (AUI) or Avamar Administrator console.
Re-run the Avamar Cluster Configuration Wizard and re-register the Hyper-V cluster client.
Retry the backup and confirm that the job is successful.
