Symptoms
In rare cases, PowerEdge Servers in a Hypervisor cluster using AMD Milan CPUs (7xx3), may exhibit MCEs randomly, and intermittently, across the cluster.
The PowerEdge systems impacted are:
- R7525
- R6525
- R7515
- R6515
Cause
Certain CPU instructions are not updated.
Resolution
There are two steps required to address this.
- BIOS update
- Upgrade to BIOS 2.19.0, planned for release in July 2025
- Settings change in the BIOS after the update.
- Enter the F2 BIOS.
- Under System BIOS Settings > Processor Settings, enable the setting "AMD IC Config Disable IT Bypass"
- Save the changes and reboot.
Systems with this BIOS setting change may show a slight performance decrease of around 0.5% to 1% in typical virtualized environments.
