Business Problem:
User cannot obtain the software ID (SWID) for the product at the time of software renewal or at times of needing support. This is how Tech Support validate a customer entitlement status.

Impact and Benefit:
The concerned teams have trackability for case volumes and validation of entitlement status by referencing the SWID at the time of case creation. Clients can use this ID to renew software license contracts.

Ways to Find the SWID:
Below are the only ways at the time of writing this article that is available to find the AppSync software ID inside the application.

  1. Connect to the AppSync UI, then go to:
"Settings" --> "Dell SupportAssist" --> "Product Serial Number."

AppSync UI

Note: The above page does not always show the AppSync Product Serial Number. It only shows if Dell SupportAssist is already configured in the AppSync UI.

  1. When the Web interface is not working or SupportAssist is not configured in the AppSync UI, there is an alternate method to obtain this information from the installed AppSync license files:

Go to the AppSync license file location (Default location: C:\EMC\AppSync\licenses\) on the AppSync server host and open one out of the available license files.

There are two types of AppSync license files (XML and FLEX-based license). Below are the sample names and screenshots that show the SWID details.

  • XML Based license file (for example APPSYNC_VSL.xml)

XML Based license file

  • Flex Based license file (for example ArraySerialNo_APPSY_4605232_Date.lic)

Flex Based license file

Note: Be cautious while reading the SWID from license files as any edition to the file can lead to corruption of it. Hence, it is best to open a copy of it rather than opening the original license file.
