Dell VxRail Deployment Planning Guide

Set up your switch configuration

Configure your network switch infrastructure before you install your VxRail hardware and deploy your clusters. Plan and configure your data center network for VxRail according to your specific use case and infrastructure.

Follow all the appropriate guidance and decision points. If you have separate teams for network and servers in your data center, work together to design the network and configure the switches. For more information about planning your networking and switch configuration, see:

Before you deploy your VxRail, configure the following network switch parameters:

  • Port speed compatibility between VxRail nodes and switch ports
  • VxRail VLANs:
    • Management
    • Discovery (internal management VLAN)
    • VMware vSAN
    • VMware vSphere vMotion
  • Switch ports that connect to VxRail nodes as trunked ports (allow pass-through of all VxRail VLANs)
  • Port as edge port to prevent loops upon network topology changes
  • Uplinks to upstream passage of VxRail networks that require external access
