Dell VxRail Deployment Planning Guide

Verify IP address availability and reachability

Each VxRail management component that is deployed on the VxRail external management network requires an IP address.

Reserve all IP addresses from the same subnet. The IP addresses can be assigned individually or from a pool, and are assigned to the VxRail components during the initialization part of deployment.

For information about allocating and confirming the IP addresses, see:

The following components must be assigned an IP address in the external management subnet:

  • VxRail Manager
  • VMware ESXi management interfaces
  • VxRail-managed VMware vCenter Server (if used)

The following components require their own IP subnet:

  • iDRAC
NOTE:The iDRAC IP address does not have to be on the same subnet as the IP addresses assigned for the external management network.
  • VMware vSAN
  • VMware vSphere vMotion

Ensure that you can reach the IP addresses of the following data center services from the IP address that is assigned to the VxRail Manager:

  • Gateway for the VxRail external management network
  • Syslog server
  • Customer-managed VMware vCenter Server
  • Secure connect gateway, if provided
  • DNS (if not using internal DNS)
  • NTP (if using NTP for time synchronization)
