Apply file filters to a protection policy

When adding or editing a protection policy, you can apply predefined filters to the protection policy. The File Filters page of the Add Policy or Edit Policy wizard enables you to select filters and apply it to a protection policy.

About this task

To include or exclude assets within the protection policy from data protection operations, click File Filters when adding a policy.

To apply filters to an existing protection policy, complete the following steps:

Steps

  1. Select Protection > Protection Policies.
    The Protection Policy window appears.
  2. Select a protection policy from the list, and then click Edit.
    The Edit Policy wizard appears.
  3. Select the appropriate asset from the list, and then click Next
    The File Filters wizard appears.
  4. Select a saved filter from the drop-down or build a new filter using the steps that are provided in Add File Filters.
  5. Click Next twice, review the details on the Summary page, and click Finish.
PowerProtect Data Manager applies the inclusion filter to the protection policy.

Results

Once the backup job is complete, go to PowerProtect Data Manager UI, select Jobs > Protection Jobs to view the filters applied with filter name. For the protection policy of NAS shares, you can find the number of files and folders that are included.
NOTE:
  • Slice processed bytes is not exactly the asset size rather depends on various factors such as the exclusion filter, incremental backup and others. This refers to the amount or the total size of slices that are finalized for backup.
  • Only trace level logs contain file and folder names that are included from backups.
