Removing the system board

  1. Follow the procedure in Before Working Inside Your Computer .
  2. Remove the:
    1. stand

    2. back cover

    3. cable cover

    4. speaker cover

    5. VESA mount bracket

    6. system-board shield

    7. memory

    8. optical drive

    9. hard drive

    10. heat sink

    11. power-supply unit

    12. converter board

    13. processor fan

  3. To release the initial set of cables from the system board:
    1. Disconnect the optical-drive cable and hard-drive cable from the connectors on the system board [1].
    2. Disconnect the touch pad cable from the connectors on the system board [2].
    3. Unthread the cables from the retention clips of the computer [3].

  4. To release the second set of cables from the system board:
    1. Remove the screws that secure the optical-drive cable and hard-drive cable to the system [1].
    2. Disconnect the optical-drive cable and hard-drive cable [2].

  5. Disconnect all the cables that are connected to the system board. Figure displaying removal of all the cables from the system board.
  6. To release the final set of cables from the system board:
    1. Press the latches on either side of the connector and pull the LVDS cable to disconnect it from the system board [1, 2].
    2. Lift the latch and disconnect the cable from the connector [3, 4].

  7. To remove the system board:
    1. Remove the screws that secure the system board to the chassis [1].
    2. Slide the system board and lift it away from the chassis [2].
