Demote a metro resource

About this task

NOTE:You can demote individual metro volumes or metro volume groups. It is not possible to demote a metro volume that is a member of a volume group.
When the preferred system runs out of storage space, the synchronization between the systems is stopped and the metro resource becomes fractured. Both systems stop servicing I/Os. In that case, the metro resource on the nonpreferred system must be promoted to enable host and production access to it until the preferred system resolves the problem. To enable this state, the metro resource on the preferred system must be demoted first.

Steps

  1. Select Protection > Metro.
NOTE:The Metro page lists all the metro resources, and enables you to evaluate all the impacted volume and prioritize demoting resources according to your considerations.
  2. Select the status of a metro resource to display the metro resource details page and then select Demote.
The Demote Metro Volume/Volume Group slide-out panel is displayed.
  3. Verify that you understand the implication of demoting the metro resource in case the remote system is servicing I/Os and verify that the remote system is down if possible.
  4. Select Demote.
The demoted state of the resource is indicated in the metro resource details page.
