Installing the secondary M.2 SSD module

NOTE:For computers shipped with M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 SSD installed in slot 4.

NOTE: This slot supports only M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 Solid-state drive and does not support any Optane, or M.2 2230 Solid-state drive.

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.

The figure indicates the location of the secondary M.2 SSD and provides a visual representation of the installation procedure.

For computers with SSD door configuration

For computers with SSD door configuration

For computers without SSD door configuration

Installing the secondary M.2 SSD module for computers without SSD door configuration

Place the M.2 2280 SSD onto its slot on the SSD carrier.
Align the tabs on the SSD thermal plate with the tab holes on the SSD carrier at an angle.
Place the SSD thermal plate above the M.2 SSD module.
NOTE:Carefully align the tab hole on the thermal plate near the screw hole with the tab on the SSD carrier.
Replace the (M2x3) screw to secure the SSD thermal plate to the M.2 SSD module.
Replace the M.2 SSD module in its slot on the computer.
Replace the (M2x3) screw to secure the SSD module in place.
Slide the SSD release latch to lock the SSD module in place.
For computers shipped with SSD door configuration:
1. Close the SSD door until it clicks into place.

Install the base cover.
NOTE:Follow this procedure only if the computer is shipped without SSD door configuration).
Install the SD card.
Follow the procedure in after working inside your computer.
