Dell’s FY10 Corporate Responsibility Report

As a employee who's been around more than 16 years, there's a lot of Dell's successes to be proud of. The strides we have made in terms of corporate Responsibility is one of those that stands out to me. We've come a long way over the last several years. Each year, we release a report that captures details about the progress we've made each year.

Today, we released our FY2010 Corporate Responsibility Report. While I think many of you know that Dell has been offering recycling options on all kinds of computers and accessories, many aren't familiar with the level of flexible options we offer to customers around the world. To see what I'm talking about, visit www.dell.com/recycling, choose your country and you'll see details. Case in point: for US customers, we offer many recycling options for businesses, plus several for consumers, from free at-home pickup, or you can donate a computer from any manufacturer throughout almost 2,000 Goodwill locations nationwide or recycle your Dell systems and accessories at Staples if it's easier for you to drop it off your old computer hardware on the go.

Our recycling programs are a big part of our efforts. But there's a lot more to it than that. Here's some of the statistics from the report that bear repeating:

  • One million children were positively impacted by Dell’s giving programs last year
  • Our free consumer recycling program has collected 484 million pounds of equipment since 2006
  • We became industry’s first to add sustainable, compostable bamboo to our packaging line-up
  • Our energy efficiency initiatives helped us reduce energy-related greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent over previous year
  • With our commitment to diversity, Dell spent more than $1 billion with women- and minority-owned suppliers last year

Take a look at this year's report if you're interested to see how Dell is working to protect the environment, to minimize the effect we as a company have on it, and to see how we're positively impacting people in communities around the world. There's always more goals to achieve and if you have thoughts on how we can focus our efforts to accomplish even more, we'd love to hear from you.
