Avamar: Restoring a Data Domain backup to Windows stalls

Symptoms

Product: 7.5.100-183 Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Server Edition (No Service Pack) 64-bit-AMD64

Whilst restoring a backup, the task repeatedly stalls on a particular file.

In the logging example below the restore gets stuck on "E:\some folder\D\folder\folder\stacks\folder\stuck file".
Nothing happens, and the restore is manually stopped.

Debug logging shows that when avtar parses the file in an attempt to check its remaining size it returns zero: 
018/08/07-23:05:25.31299 [avtar]  cdsf::parse_data(590069, 262144, 0), state 5, remaining 0, align 0

The error is then reset and the data is parsed again, resulting in a loop.


Cause

Due to insufficient information and opportunity to investigate this issue, the cause is unknown. 

Resolution

Work with Dell Support to investigate this behavior.
