The laptop battery on the XPS 17 9700 and Precision 5750 computer can drain while still connected to AC power

XPS 17 9700 laptop and Precision 5750 mobile workstation owners may encounter situations in which their battery depletes when connected to AC power. These laptops are equipped with a function known as Battery Power Boost or Hybrid Power. The function allows for battery power to supplement your laptops AC power. This happens when the laptop demands more power than is available through the USB Type-C AC adapter or the USB Type-C dock.

Dell identified a problem with a limited quantity of XPS 17 9700 laptops and Precision 5750 mobile workstations. You may notice that your battery is depleting at a higher than expected rate under sustained heavy workloads. This happens while connected directly to AC power. Dell has rectified the behavior, and current orders for the XPS 17 9700 are Precision 5750 are unaffected by this. Dell contacted customers with potentially affected laptops for resolution.
