Warning
SYS0050
Memory and free swap space available on host <name of host> is low. Available memory is xxxxKB.

Details
The available memory and free swap space on the host is less than 20%.
Recommended Action
If the issue with low memory persists, contact Dell Customer Support.

Cause

Installations of PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM) 19.8 or earlier allocates 18 GB of RAM to the PPDM virtual machine (VM), or 22 GB of RAM if the Cloud Disaster Recovery Add-On was used. However, new installations of PPDM 19.9 allocates 20 GB of RAM in order to accommodate new features, or 24 GB of RAM if the Cloud Disaster Recovery Add-On is used. Upgrading from an earlier version of PPDM to PowerProtect Data Manager 19.9, does not increase the amount of memory that is allocated to the VM.

The alerts indicate system performance issues where the system does not have enough free physical memory and too much swap usage, or system resources usage including CPU or Disk I/O.

This kind of alert that is auto acknowledged if free memory is more than 20%. PPDM at most generates one such alert in 7 days, except if memory usage becomes worse than 20%. If less than 5%, PPDM generates additional critical alerts with similar content, but the threshold is 5% instead of 20%.

Resolution

The Amount of RAM must be increased depending on your wanted performance and at least the minimum requirements of PPDM 19.9.

If the Amount of memory that is allocated to the VM is less than 24 GB of RAM, increase the allocated memory by 2 GB.

Note: If the amount of memory that is allocated to the virtual machine is 24 GB of RAM or greater, no change must be made.

PPDM 19.9 RAM requirements:
  • Minimum: 20 GB RAM or 24 GB RAM if using CDR
  • Optimized Performance: 24 GB RAM or 28 GB RAM if using CDR
  • Best performance: 32 GB RAM
Note: Do not increase RAM above 32 GB.

How Do I increase RAM on a virtual machine (VM)?
  1. Log in to vCenter.
  2. Find the PPDM VM.
  3. Select the VM, and click "Edit Settings."
  4. Change the memory size to 20 or 24 or the wanted value that is mentioned in memory size guidance and click save.
Note: This can be performed before or after the upgrade. You do not need to reboot the VM after the adjustment.
