Other USB Charging Functionality

Other USB Charging: Selecting "Off in Standby Mode"

The objective of this feature is to remove Universal Serial Bus (USB) charge capability on the monitor when the laptop enters sleep mode.
There are many variables and setup issues with this feature that must be addressed.
The content in the monitor's Users Guide may be confusing to Dell users. This article may help clarify the functionality.

The following connections are suggested for this feature to work properly:

  1. DisplayPort (DP) to DP connection or Mini-DP to DP connection: DP or Mini-DP connected to the personal computer and DP connected to the monitor.
  2. High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) to HDMI connection: HDMI connected to the personal computer and HDMI connected to the monitor
  3. Using Type C to DP dongle: Type C connected to the laptop and DP connected to the monitor.
  4. Using Type C to HDMI dongle: Type C connected to the laptop and HDMI connected to the monitor.
Note: For the above connections, you must REMOVE type C cable from the monitor or the USB-A upstream from the monitor.
Note: For the "Other USB Charging" feature, Customers can select USB charging on the monitor to "ON" or "OFF."
  • If ON is selected, when the laptop enters sleep mode the monitor USB ports still provides power to USB devices.
  • If OFF is selected, when the laptop enters sleep mode the monitor USB ports no longer provides power to USB devices.

Configurations That Does Not Work with USB Charging

Note: The following configurations does not work with the USB Charging feature:
  1. There is no option available to disable the USB charge when using a Type C to C connection. The reasoning is so that the mouse can wake the laptop when it does enter sleep mode.
  2. When using the USB-A upstream cable, there is no option available to disable the USB charge on the monitor.

USB-C Charging Functionality

The objective of this feature is to select charging power capability to the laptop when the monitor is powered off with the front power button. You must be using a Type C to C connection setup.

  • If selecting On in Off mode allows charge to the personal computer over Type C cable while the monitor power button is turned off.
  • If selecting Off in Off mode will not charge the personal computer over Type C cable while the monitor power button is turned off.
Note: For the "USB-C Charging" feature to work properly, the laptop should not support "Dell Power Button Sync" (DPBS) For laptops that support DPBS, the USB-C Charging feature is disabled.
