Dell Unity: Unity Metrics Stops Reporting (Dell Correctable)

Symptoms

In 5.1.x and 5.2.x code, there is an issue with the obs_collector which impacts UPA file creation and retention. This also impacts CloudIQ and Unisphere's ability to generate or display performance graphs. The types of issues seen include:
  • UPA creation
  • UPA retention - UPA files are deleted faster than expected; the directory holding UPA files never reach the 70% threshold before deleting the oldest UPA file. 
  • Unisphere graphs do not show
  • Dell CloudIQ graphs do not show

Cause

There is a code issue in code 5.1.x and 5.2.x. 

This issue is verified by looking for the items in RED in <spx\EMC\C4Core\log\obs_collector\ObsCollector.log>:

Resolution

This issue is fixed in OE 5.3.1 and all newer versions will include the fix for this problem. It is always recommended to upgrade to the target OE version.

If the customer is unable to upgrade, the temporary workaround is to restart the obs_collector when an issue arises. Open a support case and reference this article. 
 

NOTE: Historical data does not generate once you restart the obs_collector. Only new data starts being collected.
