NetWorker Exchange backups fails - Unable to add merge_bitmap_status field

Symptoms

NetWorker Exchange backups NetWorker Module for Microsoft (NMM) and fails.

The Backup process starts and backs up Log Files then it mounts the snapshot for the Database Files and fails with the following errors:

BBB exclude list : Unable to open/create g_sqlstr_volumes_table table, error is table 'volumes' already exists.
BBB exclude list : Unable to add merge_bitmap_status field, error is duplicate column name: merge_bitmap_status.

Cause

The file system disks for Exchange are several Terabytes (TB) in size but less than　16 TB.
The cluster size on each disk is 16 Kilobytes (KB).

 

Resolution

It is recommended to follow Microsoft guidelines for cluster size below,

  • For disk volumes less than 16 TB, use 4 KB cluster size
  • For disk volumes greater than 16 TB, use 16 KB cluster size
