PowerProtect Data Manager 19.15 Microsoft Exchange Server User Guide

Managing the stale backup copies in DD

When a Microsoft Exchange Server backup fails while the protection job is in progress, the stale backup files from the failed backup remain available in the DD system. You can list and delete the stale backup copies from the DD storage unit by using the msagentadmin administration command.

NOTE:The failed backup copy is not listed in the PowerProtect Data Manager UI or through the command-line interface, but the stale backup files are available in the DD system. The corresponding protection job also fails and includes details about the failed backup, which you can use to identify the stale backup files.

To list the stale backup copies from the storage unit, run the following commands:

  • The following command lists all the backup copies:

    msagentadmin administration -s -e now -n msapp_bbb -a DEVICE_PATH=<storage_unit_path> -a DDBOOST_USER=<DD_Boost_username> -a DEVICE_HOST=<DD_IP> -c <client_name>
  • The following command lists the backup copies in a specified date range:

    msagentadmin administration -s -b <start_date> -e <end_date> -n msapp_bbb -a DEVICE_PATH=<storage_unit_path> -a DDBOOST_USER=<DD_Boost_username> -a DEVICE_HOST=<DD_IP> -c <client_name>
NOTE:The start date and end date are based on the duration of the failed backup.

To delete the stale backup copies from the storage unit, run the following commands:

  • The following command deletes all the backup copies:

    msagentadmin administration -d -e now -n msapp_bbb -a DEVICE_PATH=<storage_unit_path> -a DDBOOST_USER=<DD_Boost_username> -a DEVICE_HOST=<DD_IP> -c <client_name>
  • The following command deletes the backup copies in a specified date range:

    msagentadmin administration -d -b <start_date> -e <end_date> -n msapp_bbb -a DEVICE_PATH=<storage_unit_path> -a DDBOOST_USER=<DD_Boost_username> -a DEVICE_HOST=<DD_IP> -c <client_name>
NOTE:The start date and end date are based on the duration of the failed backup.
