Symptoms
- An internal software module may restart, or a node may reboot unexpectedly during snapshot creation by a scheduler or with the replication functionality.
- This can result in an auto-recovering data unavailability (DU) condition due to multiple internal software module restarts on both nodes.
Cause
During snapshot creation, if a host sends I/O to a volume through a non-affinity node, it may run into a cache lock fairness issue. This may cause an internal module restart or node reboot.
- Citrix Hypervisor 8.2 (XenServer) with the default multipath policy or setting connected to a PowerStore appliance is an example platform experiencing this symptom.
- If the running PowerStoreOS is below 3.5.0, the cause may differ. See article PowerStore: Snapshots created on non-affined node may lead to node reboot.
Resolution
- Verify that the host multipath settings are configured according to Dell Technologies guidelines. PowerStore is not an active/active array, and multipath should always be configured as Asymmetric Logical Unit Access (ALUA).
