Symptoms

Retrieve operation for 'Backup1' from PowerStore fails with "Copy operation on the remote system PowerProtect DD1 failed. Check network connectivity and try again."

Cause

Users are allowed to create multiple connections to the same PowerProtect DD backup system, when separate PowerStore Backup policies, and separate PowerProtect Storage Units, are used.  However, there is an issue with the Retrieve functionality that causes the problem outlined in this article.
Scenario:
First Backup Session of Volume1:
--PowerStore1 with remote system connection to PowerProtect DD1, StorageUnit1,, with session Backup1 for Volume1, using Backup Policy1.
Second Backup Session of Volume1:
--PowerStore1 with second remote system connection to PowerProtect DD1, StorageUnit2, with session Backup2 for Volume1, using Backup Policy2.
Retrieve:
Retrieve of either Backup1 or Backup2 fails.

Resolution

This issue affects PowerStore OS version 3.5.  A software fix will be introduced in a future PowerStoreOS release.
As a workaround for the example scenario above, to RETRIEVE "Backup1", unassign Policy1 from Volume1, and assign Policy2 (if not already assigned) instead. Perform the RETRIEVE of Backup1.
