Symptoms
The symptoms of this issue include:
- During creation of a NetWorker client resource, using the New Client Wizard for a SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Group (AAG) cluster configuration gives the error: "Dispatcher: Request timed out"
The environment consists of:
- NetWorker server: Running Red Hat Linux 7.7, NetWorker version 19.1.1 or higher
- NetWorker Module for Microsoft (NMM) and Client: 19.2.0.2 or higher
- SQL server is configured in a multi-subnet configuration.
- NetWorker New Client wizard for either SQL Server AAG listener or the cluster name object fails with the error "
Dispatcher: Request timed out".The error is displayed in a new window.
The daemon.raw log on the NetWorker server contains these errors: 03/16/2020 12:41:44 PM nwservername nsrdisp_nwbg RPC critical Check whether the firewall is blocking. 03/16/2020 12:41:47 PM nwservername nsrexecd RPC error RPC client handle: No route to host. 03/16/2020 12:41:47 PM nwservername nsrexecd RPC error Unable to create the connection with 'Client_Name' address 'Client_IP_Address' at port number 7938.
Cause
The root cause of this issue is due to the NetWorker server attempting to connect to inactive IP address of the SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Group (AAG) listener (cluster name object).
The time-out for this connection attempt is longer than the NetWorker timeout for the wizard.
The time-out for this connection attempt is longer than the NetWorker timeout for the wizard.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, modify the TCP configuration on the NetWorker server.
- Modify the tcp_sync_retries parameter to a lower value in order to speed up the time it takes to completely fail connection attempts to the SQL Server AAG inactive IP.
