Symptoms

Affected Platforms:

  • Latitude 7310
  • Latitude 7410

You may find that your Latitude 7310 or 7410 experiences long boot times. It may take 63 seconds to show the Dell logo for the first time of the computer startup. When this occurs, the keyboard backlight is on, and so is the Power LED.

From the second power-on, the boot time would be back to normal. The customer may report the issue as DOA, no POST, or black screen.

This issue would occur under the below conditions:

  • First power on after opening the box
  • Main battery is removed (this scenario would cover the most of hardware replacement)
  • RTC reset
  • The customer may observe the time of day not set message displayed after RTC reset and remove the main battery cable and AC adapter from the computer.
    Time of day not set

Cause

This is working as designed. The Latitude 7410 and 7310 applied the new design; it no longer has the coin battery to supply the RTC but share from its main battery. The computer has to trigger the RTC reset when reattaching the main battery.

Resolution

Press the Continue button and set up the BIOS date and time accordingly.
