Issue

Switch port failures with no link and LED down. Occasionally a switch gets stuck in a boot loop. Below are the errors that are logged on the failed units:

PTB file to be loaded on PHYID:0x1 device:0x4
Failed to load PTB file on PHYID:0x1, aq_rv=246

Note: The messages are shown on bootup in the error condition. Also, if we run any interface-related commands after bootup, it will show these errors on the console.

Platforms Impacted: N2248PX, N2248X, N2224PX, N2224X
 

Root-Cause

PHY degradation (SPI interface failure) causes read failures from SPI flash. Unable to read PHY firmware programming from SPI Flash after an estimated 1.5 years in the field.
 

Resolution

Update the OS6 firmware version to 6.6.3.15 or 6.7.1.1 and higher to resolve the issue.
