SAVED_SNAPSETS

Creates saved snapsets.

The SAVED_SNAPSETS parameter can be specified on the DEFINE VDG and MODIFY VDG OPTIONS commands. When using SAVED_SNAPSETS, ensure that the settings comply with the snapset limit guidelines.

Syntax

SAVED_SNAPSETS(interval,retention[,SECURE[,skip]])

Options

interval
Specifies the number of days required between snapset creation. The default value is 0, which indicates that no saved snapsets are created. Valid values are 0 through 999.
retention

Specifies the retention period in days. When the period value is exceeded, the oldest saved snapset is rolled off. The default value is 1. Valid values are 1 through 9999.

retention must be equal to or greater than days.

If the specified period value is less than days, it is set equal to days, because specifying a retention period lower than the interval results in a timeframe with no saved snapsets.

For example:

  • (1,14) creates a snapset every day and maintains a 14-day history. On the 15th day, the first snapset is removed.
  • (7,4) is automatically adjusted to (7,7).
SECURE[,skip]

Creates secure saved snapsets.

skip defines the skip value (0-1024). When specifying a skip value, the first created snapset is always secure. A skip value of “1” results in secure snapsets 1, 3, 5, and so on. Specifying “2” results in secure snapsets 1, 4, 7, and so on.

The default behavior is not to create secure snapsets. If the skip value is 0, all saved snapsets are secure.
