zDP definition export and import

zDP definitions can be preserved so that a VDG can be restarted after an outage or IPL without having to redefine it.

zDP can export current VDG and target set definitions to the Symmetrix File System (SFS) on multiple storage systems. The saved definitions can be imported to the running zDP instance after an IPL or from a different LPAR.

This feature provides the following advantages:

  • Reduced reliance on saved zDP Definition Utility jobs
  • Dynamic changes to VDG and target set definitions are also included when exporting and importing the definitions.
  • The definitions are automatically portable among LPARs, even remote ones.
