Installing the keyboard

CAUTION:The information in this installation section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation process.

About this task

The following images indicate the location of the keyboard and provide a visual representation of the installation procedure.

Steps

  1. Route the keyboard tabs through the openings of the palm-rest assembly.
  2. Thread the keyboard-backlit cable and the keyboard cable through the opening of the palm-rest assembly.
  3. Align the screw holes of the keyboard with the screw holes on the palm-rest assembly.
    NOTE:When securing the keyboard to the palm-rest assembly with screws, install the first four screws in the sequence as shown in the following image. The screw holes are labeled according to the required installation sequence.

  4. Replace the 17 screws (M1.4x1.2) and seven screws (M1.4x1.4) that secure the keyboard to the palm-rest assembly.
  5. Connect the keyboard-backlit cable to the keyboard-backlit connector (JKBBL2) on the keyboard-control board, and close the latch to secure the cable.
  6. Connect the keyboard cable to the keyboard connector (JKB1) on the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.

Next steps

  1. Install the system board.
  2. Install the power button with fingerprint reader.
  3. Install the display assembly.
  4. Install the battery.
  5. Install the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or M.2 2280 solid-state drive from the M.2 SSD slot, whichever is applicable.
  6. Install the base cover.
  7. Follow the procedure in After working inside your computer.
