Symptoms
Azure VMs are protected using NetWorker Azure VM snapshot protection.
An Azure VM snapshot restore fails with the following error in the recover log:
207705:nsrazure_recover: Curl: Error setting options/performing in curl, error details: Couldn't resolve host name(curl error code: 6), Could not resolve host: STORAGE_ACCOUNT_NAME.blob.core.windows.net 207849:nsrazure_recover: Failed createEmptyBlob...
This problem can appear on a long-running restore session.
There are no name resolution errors observed while using nslookup or curl against the Azure blob storage account:
nslookup STORAGE_ACCOUNT_NAME.blob.core.windows.net
curl -k https://STORAGE_ACCOUNT_NAME.blob.core.windows.net
Cause
This issue was raised to NetWorker engineering.
Impacted Versions:
19.11.x
19.12.0.0 -> 19.12.0.2
19.13.0.0
Resolution
This issue is fixed in the following NetWorker versions:
- 19.13.0.1
- 19.12.0.3
Workaround:
Add the Azure blob storage endpoint to the NetWorker servers local hosts file:
Linux: /etc/hosts
Windows: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
This change bypasses potential transient Domain Name System (DNS) resolution errors.
NOTE: In some scenarios, other connection errors may still be observed; for example "connection reset by peer." A solution will be delivered through code changes to
nsrazure_recover.
