PowerEdge: SYS565 Memory Module Temperature Warnings During 17G Server Cold Boot

Summary: Dell PowerEdge 17G Intel servers may record memory module temperature warning events in the Lifecycle Log and System Event Log during the server cold boot sequence.

Symptoms

Cold power cycling Dell 17G PowerEdge Intel server with iDRAC10 1.20.70.50 (or newer) firmware generates SYS565 events when paired with older Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) firmware. Both iDRAC10 Lifecycle Log (LCLOG) and System event Log (SEL) records a memory module temperature exceeded warning threshold event.

Impacted Servers:

  • PowerEdge R470
  • PowerEdge R570
  • PowerEdge R670
  • PowerEdge R770

Lifecycle Log Example:

2025-10-20 11:17:34   SYS566     The memory module temperature has returned to its normal value.

2025-10-20 11:16:54   SYS565     The memory module temperature has exceeded the warning threshold value.

2025-10-20 11:16:49   RAC1195    User requested state / configuration change to PowerControl using Redfish.

2025-10-20 11:16:48   SYS1005    The server power action is initiated because the management controller initiated a power-down operation.

2025-10-20 11:16:48   RAC0702    Requested system powercycle.

System Event Log Example:

The memory module temperature has returned to its normal value.             Mon Oct 20 2025 11:17:34

The memory module temperature has exceeded the warning threshold value.     Mon Oct 20 2025 11:16:54

Cause

November 2025 iDRAC10 v1.20.70.50 and associated platform FPGA firmware introduced a new MEMHOT feature for 17G Intel PowerEdge servers. Mixing iDRAC10 firmware that added support for this feature with FPGA firmware that does not support MEMHOT leads to this event sighting.

Resolution

FPGA firmware introduces support for the MEMHOT feature in unison with iDRAC10 firmware 1.20.70.50. Updating 17G Intel PowerEdge servers to this firmware or newer remediates this sighting. When a SYS5565 error occurs for this mismatched firmware pairing, the error self-corrects and records a SYS566 event in LCLOG and SEL.

FPGA versions that introduced MEMHOT Support:

  • R470/R570 FPGA Version: 107.132.000
  • R670/R770 FPGA Version: 108.124.104
