PowerProtect Data Manager 19.16 Virtual Machine User Guide

Adjust the VMDM connection timeout and read timeout default values when network latency issues occur

The VMDM service makes REST API calls to retrieve tag data and to set certain configuration parameters during virtual machine restores. Due to network latency issues, the default values for the connection timeout and read timeout might require adjustment.

Perform the following steps to tune the configuration parameters in the application.yml file:

  1. Log in to the PowerProtect Data Manager console as user admin.
  2. If not already created, create an application.yml file in the /usr/local/brs/lib/vmdm/config/ directory.
NOTE:The structure of this file requires the separation of fields into individual categories and subcategories, as shown in the following step.
  3. In the application.yml file, change the following values for the connection timeout and read timeout to override the default value. For example, double the existing values of 120 msec (for the connection timeout) and 90 msec (for the read timeout) by modifying the following lines:
    vmware_connection:
                   webservice_connection_timeout_seconds: 240
                   webservice_read_timeout_seconds: 180
  4. Run vmdm stop and then vmdm start to restart the VMDM service.
NOTE: Ensure that no other virtual machine operations are running, such as protection and recovery.
