PowerProtect Data Manager 19.16 Virtual Machine User Guide

Steps required prior to updating to PowerProtect Data Manager 19.13 and later when VMDM is running with increased heap memory

When the VMDM service is running with increased heap memory (for example, 1536 MB) in PowerProtect Data Manager version 19.12, the following steps are recommended prior to updating to PowerProtect Data Manager 19.13 or later to ensure that this setting continues to be applied after the update.

NOTE:Though not required for new deployments of PowerProtect Data Manager 19.13 and later, these steps can also be applied when the deployment requires additional heap memory for VMDM.
  1. Create a file named vmdm-env-local in /usr/local/brs/lib/vmdm/bin/.
  2. Add the following content to the vmdm-env-local file:

    CUSTOMER_JVM_OPTS="-Xmx1536m"

  3. Run the following commands:

    chown admin:app vmdm-env-local

    chmod g+rwx,u+x vmdm-env-local

  4. Run vmdm restart to restart the VMDM service.
    NOTE: Ensure that no other virtual machine operations are running, such as protection and recovery.
