PowerProtect Data Manager 19.16 Virtual Machine User Guide

Install or update the vSphere Installation Bundle

The following steps provide instructions to install or update the vSphere Installation Bundle (VIB)

Steps

  1. From the PowerProtect Data Manager UI, go to Infrastructure > Protection Engines, and then select the Transparent Snapshot Data Movers pane.
  2. Click vSphere Installation Bundle icon to the right of the vCenter server.
  3. If Auto vSphere Installation Bundled (VIB) management is disabled is displayed, click Enable.
  4. If the status indicates Ready for install or Ready for upgrade, select the checkbox next to this host and click Installor Upgrade.
When performing a manual VIB installation or update, if one or more of the selections are not eligible or the VIB is already installed, a dialog appears. Click OK to proceed.

Results

When the VIB installation or update is started, the following occurs:
  • The Protection Engines window updates to display the progress.
  • An entry for the job Performing Host Configuration appears in the Jobs window.
  • If the host is in a cluster configuration, entries for the tasks Start service and Update service activation policy appear for each host in the vCenter UI.

When a new host is added to a cluster, the VIB is installed automatically.

Any virtual machine assets that were added in PowerProtect Data Manager 19.8 or earlier use the VMware vSphere Storage APIs – Data Protection (VADP) protection mechanism. After the VIB installation on these virtual machines, these assets must be migrated to use TSDM.
