Telecom’s Future Success Starts with a Strategy

Learn how Dell Technologies Advisory Services lays the groundwork for the Open Telecom Transformation Program.

Most business leaders are familiar with Geoffrey Moore’s “Crossing the Chasm,” a book highlighting the gap between disruptive ideas and market adoption. Today, this idea resonates strongly in the telecom industry. The disruptive idea? Cloud. The chasm? Concerns about risk, skill sets, and resources. Telecom leaders know they must bridge this gap or risk their survival.

Acknowledging these challenges, Dell Technologies unveiled the Open Telecom Transformation Program earlier this year. This program reduces risks and accelerates the shift from legacy systems to open, cloud-native architectures for telecom networks. It combines services, solutions, and products to help communications service providers (CSPs) confidently take action today.

The Importance of Practical Experience and Strategic Advice

Transformation necessitates transitioning from trusted legacy technologies to new innovative network architectures, introducing unfamiliar hardware, software and operating models. These changes demand specialized skills and resources that many communications service providers (CSPs) may not possess in-house, creating potential risks. Forrester research shows that 71% of businesses recognize a gap in the resources or knowledge needed to fully unlock the value of their technology investments.¹ Engaging with experienced external consultants has become a critical step, bringing the deep expertise and customized strategies required to ensure a seamless transition and deliver measurable success.

Why Partner with Dell?

Our collaborative approach is designed to meet CSPs where they are, creating tailored roadmaps that align technology investments with business objectives. Our Advisory Services is the starting point of your transformation journey.

Advisory Services – the Start of Your Transformation

The first step in the Open Telecom Transformation Program is Advisory Services which includes:

    1. Comprehensive Assessment
Every successful transformation starts with understanding the current landscape. Dell’s Advisory Services begin with an in-depth evaluation of your network workloads, supporting infrastructure and operations across network domains. This “as-is” review exposes inefficiencies, uncovers gaps and highlights opportunities for optimization. Importantly, Dell consultants will facilitate gaining consensus across multiple stakeholders as to the challenges and opportunities, in the form of a prioritization model that feeds into the Roadmap Design.
    2. Roadmap Design
With a detailed understanding of your “as-is” environment and long-term goals, Dell helps craft a strategic, detailed roadmap and a target north star architecture focused on the evolution of your workloads across each network domain – Core/RAN/OSS/BSS. This plan outlines clear and implementable steps to reach the desired “to-be” architecture, balancing near-term “quick wins” with long-term scalability, security, and efficiency. All solution options defined within the Roadmap Design are rigorously assessed to determine their technology and process maturity. This is an important input to managing change risks.
    3. Tailored Solutions
No two transformations look the same. Whether your focus is on automating your operating model, adopting AI capabilities in support of autonomous networks, adopting multicloud strategies, modernizing core data centers, enhancing resiliency & cybersecurity, or optimizing workloads, Dell designs solutions tailored to your specific needs.
    4. Future-Proof Planning
Effective transformation isn’t just about addressing today’s challenges; it’s also about preparing for the future. Dell provides strategies and solutions that adapt as your network applications, workloads, technologies and market demands evolve to ensure that your business remains competitive in an ever-changing landscape. Included within this plan is a set of TCO and ROI models that help you substantiate your business case.

Once the advisory service step is complete, you’ll have a clear and actionable blueprint in hand, including a customized roadmap and an implementation plan tailored to your goals. This sets the stage for the next phase—Implementation Services—where strategies are transformed into practical results with precision and efficiency.
