Symptoms

An issue has been identified in Dell Avamar Data Store environments running Gen4T and Gen4S hardware. The 2025 R1 OS Security Rollup may fail during reboot on nonutility nodes, leaving storage nodes offline and disrupting the installation process.

Note: This issue does not affect systems running Gen5A hardware.

Cause

A failure to install the GRand Unified Bootloader (GRUB2) on Gen4T and Gen4S storage nodes causes this issue. When this occurs, the operating system is unable to boot correctly, leaving the affected nodes offline. Customers are advised not to install the 2025 R1 OS Security Rollup on any multinode Avamar Data Store Gen4T or Gen4S systems.

Resolution

Customers can resolve this issue by installing the 2025 R2 OS Security Rollup. For additional details, refer to KB 000351152 titled DSA-2025-293: Security update for Dell Avamar, Dell Networker Virtual Edition (NVE) and Dell PowerProtect DP Series Appliance / Dell Integrated Data Protection Appliance (IDPA) Multiple Third-Party Vulnerabilities.
