Symptoms
The following type of failure 'Reason' is reported in the job results for partially completed snapshots:
2 soft failure(s) occurred: Failed to execute script csmprescript.sh: Cannot update handlerVersion or autoUpgradeMinorVersion for VM extension 'csmPreScript'. Change is in conflict with other extensions under handler 'Microsoft.Azure.Extensions.CustomScript', with typeHandler version '2.0' and autoUpgradeMinorVersion 'True'., Failed to execute script <script name>: Cannot update handlerVersion or autoUpgradeMinorVersion for VM extension 'csmPostScript'. Change is in conflict with other extensions under handler 'Microsoft.Azure.Extensions.CustomScript', with typeHandler version '2.0' and autoUpgradeMinorVersion 'True'.
Cause
A VM configuration problem causes this issue. The most common cause would be the case where a CustomScript script was attached to the VM when it was deployed for automating customization of the VM at deployment. The use of CustomScript extensions prevent Cloud Snapshot Manager(CSM) from attaching the pre and post scripts to the machine for execution, hence the cited 'soft failures'.
Resolution
Uninstall the existing CustomScript extensions to allow for CSM application consistency script execution.
