Precision 7960 Tower Service Manual

Data wipe feature support only on AHCI mode

Issue: Precision 7960 Tower supports the Data Wipe feature only on AHCI mode and does not support on RAID-On mode. You must switch to AHCI mode to run data wipe.

Cause: The data wipe function on RAID-On mode with VROC 8.0 is not supported on Precision 7960 Tower, as the Sanitize command is not supported on VROC 8.0.

Resolution: You can set the HDD mode to AHCI mode, and then wipe the data from the hard drive.

NOTE:Intel supports the data wipe feature on VROC 9.0, except on the Granite Rapid processors.
To change the HDD mode, do the following:
  1. Restart your computer and press F2 when Dell logo appears to enter the BIOS setup.
  2. Go to the Storage tap to verify whether the computer is in AHCI/NVMe or RAID On mode.
    NOTE:By default, the option is set to RAID on mode.
  3. Change the SATA/NVMe Operation to AHCI/NVMe and .
  4. Click Apply, and restart your computer.
To run the data wipe function, do the following:
  1. Restart your computer and press F2 when Dell logo appears to enter the BIOS setup.
  2. Go to the Security tab, and search for Data Wipe on Next Boot option.
  3. Under Data Wipe on Next, enable the Start Data Wipe option. The SSD data is wiped once your reboot your computer.
  4. Click Continue, when the warning message is displayed.
  5. Click Erase. The Data Wipe Completed Successfully message is displayed.
  6. Click OK.
NOTE:The No bootable devices found message is displayed when you boot to the operating system, which means you have erased your hard drive successfully.
