Solutions Enabler in Client and Server mode configuration

To enable VMAX backups with the Solutions Enabler in remote server mode, ensure that you meet the following requirements:

On the client or mount or both host:
  • The Solutions Enabler clients are installed.
  • Gatekeepers are not configured and masked to the client, mount or both host.
  • The netcnfg file in the SYMAPI configuration directory includes the NSM_SERVER setting, which specifies the SYMAPI_SERVER name NSM_SERVER - TCPIP <SYMAPI SERVER HOST NAME> <SYMAPI SERVER IP> <PORT NUMBER> ANY
  • The connection environment variable SYMCLI_CONNECT_TYPE which defines the local or remote mode of the local host (client), is set to the REMOTE value SYMCLI_CONNECT_TYPE=REMOTE .
  • To use SYMCLI through a remote SYMAPI service, the environment variable SYMCLI_CONNECT is set to an available service name of the server connection as defined in the netcnfg file. For the service name NSM_SERVER, set the environment variable as SYMCLI_CONNECT=NSM_SERVER.
On the SYMAPI server node:
  • The operating system must support the Solutions Enabler as configured with the SYMAPI server.
  • The Solutions Enabler server is installed and configured in server mode.
  • In-band SAN connectivity is enabled to the VMAX array.
NOTE Solutions Enabler in client or server mode works with Solutions Enabler 8.4.0.7 and Solutions Enabler 9.0. If Networker is running before Solutions Enabler configuration in remote mode, then we need to restart Networker snapshot management service on client, mount or both host.
