Configuring a backup to support vSAN datastores

Backup and recovery functionality is supported for vSAN virtual machines.

When performing backups or restores of virtual machines residing on vSAN datastores, it is highly recommended to deploy the VM Direct Engine to a vSAN datastore. A VM Direct Engine deployed to a vSAN datastore can be used to back up virtual machines on other vSAN or non-vSAN datastores by using Hot Add or nbdssl transport modes, as applicable.
