PowerProtect Data Manager 19.16 Virtual Machine User Guide

Deployment and configuration best practices and requirements

Deploying and configuring PowerProtect Data Manager, DDVE, and other components in a certain way provides efficient protection of virtual machine assets.

To perform data protection and disaster recovery tasks in OCVS on OCI, consider the following recommendations for the backup infrastructure:

  • Deploy PowerProtect Data Manager and DDVE to OCVS on OCI.
  • Deploy a VM Direct Engine to OCVS on OCI.
  • When deploying the OVA, select the Oracle Cloud VMware Solution deployment environment.
NOTE:Selecting a different deployment environment results in unsupported operations such as File Level Restore and Instant Access being displayed in the user interface. If these unsupported operations are attempted, they fail.
  • Deploy at least one VM Direct Engine for each software-defined data center (SDDC) cluster in the OCVS-on-OCI environment.
  • When deploying or configuring PowerProtect Data Manager or the VM Direct Engine, ensure that the DNS server IP points to an internal DNS server that is running in the vCenter server inventory of the SDDC.
  • Ensure that the internal DNS server has both forward and reverse lookup entries for all of the required components, such as the PowerProtect Data Manager server, the VM Direct Engine, and the DDVE appliance.
  • Configure DNS to allow machines in the SDDC to resolve FQDNs to their public IP addresses.
  • When adding the SDDC vCenter server to PowerProtect Data Manager, perform one of the following actions:
  • If using NSX-T, add the SDDC vCenter server toPowerProtect Data Manager by using the FQDN.
  • Select the Workload Resource pool in OCVS for the deployment of all components.
