OpenManage Enterprise Integration for VMware vCenter Version 1.1 User's Guide

ISO Profile Deployment

Prerequisites

User can perform the deployment only on the compliant bare metal servers.

About this task

NOTE When OMEVV Operating System deployment fails, perform reset factory default.

Steps

  1. On the OMEVV home page, click Compliance & Deployment > Deployment.
  2. Select a bare metal server, and then click DEPLOY.
  3. Click GET STARTED on the ISO Profile Deployment wizard after verifying the deployment checklist.
  4. Select one or more server from the list and click Next.
  5. On the deployment option wizard, ISO Profile (ESXi installation) checkbox is enabled.
From the vCenter Name drop-down menu, select an instance of vCenter where ESXi is required to be added after the deployment.
      • vCenter Destination Container—To select this option, click BROWSE, and select an appropriate data center or cluster where ESXi is required to add after the deployment.
      • Proactive HA-enabled clusters are not displayed. Select any data center at the time of deployment and then move the host to Proactive HA-enabled cluster after the deployment and manage are completed successfully.
    • ISO Profile—Select an appropriate ISO profile from the drop-down list.
    • Installation Target—Select any of the following options:
      • First boot disk—deploys an operating system on the Virtual Drive created using Hard Drive, Solid State Drive (SSD), or virtual drive created by RAID controllers.
      • BOSS—deploys an Operating System on the BOSS card. If BOSS is available on at least one of the selected servers, the BOSS option is enabled. If not, only the First boot Disk option is available.
        • If any one of the selected servers does not support BOSS module, or if BOSS is not installed in the servers then, the Operating System deployment operation on those servers is skipped. To deploy an Operating System on the first boot disk of the servers, select the Deploy the hypervisor to the first boot disk for servers that do not have an available Internal BOSS check box.
NOTE The First boot disk installation target is not equivalent to the first entry in the BIOS Hard Drive Sequence or UEFI Boot sequence. This option deploys an Operating System on to the first disk identified by the ESXi pre-OS environment. Ensure that the Hard-Disk FailOver or Boot sequence retry option is enabled when the First Boot Disk option is selected.
NOTE Ensure BOSS controller has VD created before the deployment.
  6. Click Next.
  7. On the Select Host Credential page, perform the following tasks:
    • To use the same ESXi credential for all hosts, click YES, and then enter the password.
    • To select the individual ESXi credential for each server, click NO, and then enter the root password.
    • To view the entered password, click the eye icon.
NOTE Since password confirmation dialog box is not available, ensure to provide the correct password.
  8. On the Configure Network Settings page, perform the following tasks:
    • Enter a Fully Qualified Host Name (FQDN) for the server.
      • A fully qualified domain name for the hostname is mandatory.
      • The use of local host for the FQDN is not supported.
      • The FQDN is used when adding the host to vCenter.
      • Create a DNS record that resolves the IP address with the FQDN.
      • Configure the DNS server to support reverse lookup requests.
    • The DHCP reservations and DNS host names must be in place and verified before the deployment job is scheduled to run.
NOTE If vCenter is registered with OMEVV using FQDN, ensure that the ESXi host could resolve the FQDN using DNS resolution .If you have selected the Use DHCP networking option, FQDN is not applicable. Select the NIC that is used for management network. The connection state of each NIC is mentioned in the drop-down.
NOTE Ensure that you select the management NICs based on the network connectivity to the OMEVV. The APPLY SETTINGS TO ALL SERVERS option is not applicable for management NIC selection.
  9. Select the OMEVV network instance that has access to ESXi.
Select any of the following networking options:
    • For static network configuration, enter the preferred DNS server, alternate DNS server, IP address, subnet mask, and a default gateway.
NOTE If you have selected the Use DHCP networking option, preferred DNS server, alternate DNS server, IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway details are not applicable.
NOTE Use VLAN— By providing the VLAN ID to the management interface of an Operating System during the deployment, the VLAN ID tags all the traffic. Server Identification assigns new names and network identification to deployed servers. For more information, see VLAN support.
  10. The following information is displayed on schedule deployment job wizard:
    • Deployment Job Name
    • Deployment Job Description
    • Deployment Schedule
      • Run Now—To run the deployment job immediately.
      • Schedule Later—To schedule the job to run later and then select the date and time.
  11. Select the Go to the Jobs page after the job is submitted.
Track the status of the jobs in OMEVV jobs page. For more information, see Deployment Jobs
  12. Click FINISH.
Once the deployment job is complete, the host is managed successfully.
