Removing the cooling fan
Prerequisites
CAUTION: Never operate your system with the fan removed. The system can overheat and result in the shutdown of the system and loss of data.
- Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
- Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
- Remove the air shroud.
Steps
- Disconnect the fan cable from the connector on the system board.
- Holding the fan, press the side release tab, and slide the fan in the direction of the arrow that is marked on the fan to remove it from the system.

CAUTION: Do not remove or install the fan by holding the fan blades.Figure 2. Removing the High Performance (HPR) PCI fan 
The High Performance (HPR) PCI fan is needed when BOSS N1 or A2 GPU or >25 W PCIe or Broadcom 10G NIC is installed.
