Installing the expansion card on the system board

Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
Remove the support bar.
Remove the air shrouds.
Remove the expansion card riser.
If applicable, disconnect the cables connected to the Power Interposer Board (PIB), System Board, and backplane.
NOTE Ensure that the cables are routed correctly before installing the riser. Incorrectly installed cables may get damaged.
If installing a new expansion card, unpack it and prepare the card for installation.
Unpack the expansion card and prepare it for installation.
NOTE For instructions, see the documentation accompanying the card.

Lift and open the blue expansion card retention latch.
Pull the filler bracket out of the system.
Remove the existing expansion card or filler bracket from the expansion card holder.
NOTE Store the filler bracket for future use. Filler brackets must be installed in empty expansion card slots to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system.

Holding the card on the edges, align the card with the expansion card connector on the system board.

Press the expansion card firmly until the card is fully seated.
Push the blue expansion card retention latch until the latch snaps into place.
Disconnect the cables from the Power Interposer Board (PIB), system board, and the backplane.
NOTE Ensure that you remove the cables that are secured using the cable securing bracket routed along the chassis wall.
NOTE Remove the drive cable and the system board cables.
