Symptoms

The SourceOne Search Web Page and Shortcut UURL (ExShortcut) website is not responding to shortcut retrieval requests and prevents the viewing or restore of Shortcut Email messages

Cause

The issue was caused due to ISAPI and CGI Restrictions set to incorrectly set ISAPI and CGI Restrictions values. These value are request handlers that allow dynamic content to execute on a server. Also the .Net Framework was incorrectly set to V2.0 instead of V4.0 for ExShortcut and Search websites

Resolution

Making the following changes in Internet Information Server (IIS) resolves the problem:

1. In IIS Manager console  (inetmgr.msc) navigate to the server level

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754974(v=ws.10).aspx

Changing the Application Pool .Net CLR version

  1. Locate Application pool requiring edit, in this scenario, it was ExShortcut and Search
  2. Double click on the Application Pool's name on list to edit
  3. Navigate to middle section entitled  ".NET CLR Version:"
  4. Scroll through list and select .NET CLR Version v4.0.xxxxx from previously selected value of .NET CLR Version v2.0.xxxxx
  5. Click OK to save and exit
  6. Click STOP button in Actions pane, then confirm status column now shows STOPPED
  7. Click Start in Actions pane and confirm the Application pool status is showing "Started"
  8. Repeat for any other pools for SourceOne that showed a v4.0 as value under the ".NET CLR Version" column name

Editing Incorrectly Set ISAPI/CGI Restriction Values
While still within IIS Management Console (inetmgr.msc):

  1. Single click the Server name in the left navigation pane, i.e. S172 if the SourceOne server's Netbios server name hosting IIS is S172
  2. In Features View, locate ISAPI and CFGI restrictions un the IIS section of this screen
  3. Double Click on the "ISAPI and CGI Restrictions" Icon to enable editing of settings for it
  4. For all Descriptions starting with  ASP.NET v4.0.xxxxxx, ensure the Restriction column's value is Enabled. In the problem situation, this was showing as "Not allowed"
  5. Single click on an Entry here that is "not allowed" and click the "ALLOW" link in the Actions pane on Right window
  6. Go to an Administrator-level CMD window and reset IIS by typing IISRESET
