NetWorker: NMC error "Unable to authenticate with server "server-name": Authentication error: why = Server rejected credentials"

Symptoms

This issue can appear if the NMC (gstd) service and NetWorker server (nsrd) service are installed on separate hosts. You can log in to the NMC but clicking different tabs, and options produces the error:

Unable to connect to server: Unable to authenticate with server networker-server: Authentication error: why = Server rejected credentials

Cause

This can be caused by peering conflicts or incorrect permission settings.

Resolution

Clear the peer information about the NMC server and the NetWorker server:


Once the peer information has been deleted attempt to log in to the NMC. If the error continues, you can run the following commands on the NetWorker server:

nsrauthtrust -H authc-server-name -P 9090
nsraddadmin -H authc-server-name -P 9090
