Symptoms

Enabling PowerProtect Data Manager Disaster Recovery on a system that was previously configured and then disabled can produce an error. The following error is reported for the 'Data Domain Boost auto-configuration for primary source' job:
User account verification error. Deleting user and trying again Failed to delete user account. Please manually delete it

Cause

This problem can occur when enabling PowerProtect Data Manager DR backups on a system where the DR backups had been configured previously and were disabled.

Resolution

Identify the user account that is associated with the affected SysDR* storage unit in PowerProtect Data Manager by following this procedure:

  1. SSH to PowerProtect Data Manager terminal
  2. Change to root user.
su root
  1. Change directory
cd /usr/local/brs/puppet/scripts
  1. Run this command to get the previously configured DR info:
./get_sdr_config_credential.py SysDR_$(hostname -s)
The output resembles this:
secret_id 92936a86-f460-4f8b-b0ae-9a396d6bf4f4 SECRET_MANAGER_REQUEST_ARGS ['curl', '-s', '-XGET', '-H', 'Content-Type: application/json', u'https://localhost:9092/secrets/92936a86-f460-4f8b-b0ae-9a396d6bf4f4', '--cacert', '/etc/ssl/certificates/component/rootca.pem', '--cert', '/etc/ssl/certificates/component/component.pem', '--key', '/etc/ssl/certificates/component/componentkey.pem'] secret {u'password': u'{"password":"zD0_ae8-981-2bf-bf6-","username":"SysDR_ppdm199"}', u'id': u'92936a86-f460-4f8b-b0ae-9a396d6bf4f4'} credential {'username': u'SysDR_ppdm199', 'password': u''} ==============PowerProtect DD MTree credential============== Full MTree path: /data/col1/SysDR_ppdm199 User name : SysDR_ppdm199 Password : ========================================================
  1. Make note of the username. In the above example output, the username is: SysDR_ppdm199
  2. Connect to the Data Domain(DD) web console
  3. Find the storage unit SysDR-<name>.
  4. Set the storage unit's user account to the username obtained from Step 4 output.
  5. Retry the DR configuration in PowerProtect Data Manager.
  6. If it fails again, delete the user account from 'Administration->Access->Local Users' in the DD console.
  7. Retry the DR configuration from PowerProtect Data Manager. The account is re-created on DD.
