Removing the memory module

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the base cover.

About this task

The following image indicates the location of the memory modules and provides a visual representation of the removal procedure.

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the memory module, hold the memory module by the edges. Do not touch the components or metallic contacts on the memory module as electrostatic discharge (ESD) can inflict severe damage on the components. Image: Gently lift the transparent Mylar. Use your fingertips to carefully spread apart the securing-clips on each end of the memory-module slot until the memory module pops up. Remove the memory module from the memory-module slot. Repeat step 1 and step 2 if there is a second memory module installed on your computer. Lower the Mylar back to its original position.

Steps

  1. Gently lift the transparent Mylar.
  2. Use your fingertips to carefully spread apart the securing-clips on each end of the memory-module slot until the memory module pops up.
  3. Remove the memory module from the memory-module slot.
    NOTE:Repeat step 1 and step 2 if there is a second memory module installed on your computer.
  4. Lower the transparent Mylar back to its original position.
