All products: Contaminants such as dust on fiber optic connector end face causes poor IO performance
Dust or chemical contamination at the endface of a fiber optic LC connector or transceiver module impedes signaling. Dell engineering teams have verified cases in which a fully functional port appears to be a bad port because dirty optical connectors manifest as a port failing loop testing with acceptable power measurement levels. Cable connectors should be cleaned and when stored must be protected from dust particle or chemical contamination.

Our Host Configuration guide for Linux (as of September 2023) reads, page 136 :
“Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 and later
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 introduces detect_checker as a stanza parameter. The default value is yes. The MPIO detects if a device supports ALUA. If ALUA is supported, the MPIO overrides the configured path_checker, and uses the TUR checker instead. For Unity, and VNX, it is recommended to use emc_clariion checker as it can handle the inactive LUN state properly.”
When applying this recommendation in a RedHat 7.x environment (with x greater or equal to 4), an error is returned by multipathd saying that this parameter is invalid.

In Unity 5.5, File System (FS) access can be provided using a Network File System (NFS) mount using NFSv3 or NFSv4 file sharing protocols. This is typically done for Logical Unity Numbers (LUN) and NFS datastores with specific mounting parameters and then scripted for various groups of hosts.
A directory is created for the mount point when mounting file shares using NFSv4.2. If the directory security label (sec_label) parameter has no data assigned to it, the Unity Service Processors (SP) can panic and reboot unexpectedly.

Updated: November 06, 2025
ID: 000052729
When a storage pool's usage exceeds its high water mark, the automatic snapshot deletion (auto delete) feature pauses. Although it tries to delete snapshots to free up space, it may not be enough to bring the pool's usage below the threshold. As a result, the auto delete function remains paused, displaying an error message, until you manually restart it. Once reenabled, the auto delete feature resumes attempting to delete snapshots and reduce pool consumption.

Unity supports the ability to host multiple tenants on a single system for service providers who would like to isolate group of VLANs from the rest, also tenants helps admins as NAS servers belonging to same tenant will have the tenant's name visible beside each NAS server which eases the NAS servers grouping and classification.
NAS servers created with access to the tenant will have access to the VLANs included in the tenant.
Dell Unity’s flexible pool-based architecture also enables the ability to separate each tenant onto
their own pools for separation at the drive level, if necessary.

Attempts to configure an external Fornetix Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) server to save and store Unity system D@RE keys fails.
The following error code is seen: 0x7140900D and a corresponding error message "The KMIP server enablement operation did not complete successfully."
Fornetix KMIP server software was required because VMware ESXi 8.x hosts are in use, and it runs on a virtual machine in the environment. The end user had tried to acquire Dell CloudLink KMIP software from Dell initially as it also supports VMware environments.
CloudLink software is no longer available to purchase as of March 2023.
The other KMIP server software approved in the Dell Unity e-Lab Navigator Compatibility Matrix does not run in a VMware environment.

When uploading text files to Unity's FTP server, file formatting may become invalid due to the difference between Windows and Unix/Linux end-of-line (EOL) characters. Windows uses two characters, CR+LF while Unix/Linux only uses LF.
By default, Unity's FTP server uses ASCII transfer mode and since Unity uses a Unix/Linux base, all EOL characters are converted to LF. This makes files appear to be broken when read from a Windows client.
To avoid this behavior, files should be uploaded using bin transfer mode. This makes sure the file is transferred "as is" with no changes. This may also be helpful when transferring image, audio and video files as they also require binary mode to avoid corruption.
